Voltage Drop Calculations
Hi,I''ve looking at running low voltage lighting throughout my back yard, and I think I''ll need more than the 100 ft cable that''s the longest available at home depot. How long can the cables be? Can I daisy chain them? Will I need a stronger transformer? Thanks in advance for your help! Dan
Before you start running cables in your yard you should review our DESIGNING LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING information page. Cable length and cable size are critical when laying out your new outdoor lighting system. It is always best to have multiple runs of cable from the transformer to a grouping of lights to minimize the effects of voltage drop which is the main cause of dim lights. We have many COMMERCIAL GRADE OUTDOOR LIGHTING KITS to choose from that include everything you need to properly light your garden.
