12V transformers: UL Class 2 vs. Plain Old UL

I have noticed that 60W electronic transformers are Class 2 UL listed but those over 60W are just UL listed. I need to replace one of the 60W transformers which is driving 50W of halogen lights, and I'd like to install one bigger than 60W (perhaps this would extend the life of the transformer--I'm not sure). My present transformers are mounted at the top back of a kitchen cabinet and plugged into an outlet there. The lights are are hardwired to wall switches with 12 AWG wire from the transformers. Finally the question: Is it still OK to mount a UL listed transformer (but not Class 2) in the cabinet. Will the 75W transformer make a difference or will a new 60W be fine.Thank you for your time,John

Most electronic transformers are designed to operate at full capacity.  As a result transformers do get slightly warm which is normal.  I would recommend that you get the 75-watt model and use a dimmer that is designed for that type of transformer just to be safe.
